Desktop Computer or Laptop ? read this before buying one for Home Based Learning (HBL).
Desktops are great, love them. They don’t burn your lap like a laptop and very ergonomic to use when you use it with a monitor.
Beware of the costs when buying a Desktop, unlike a laptop, it doesn’t come with all accessories such as bluetooth, wifi etc, which you assume are like mandatory equipments.
Here is my breakdown of a Desktop computer in Singapore.
Basic Cost of CPU : 900 SGD, this includes the following config
- Processor — AMD Ryzen 3, Quad Core
- 16 GB RAM
- ASUS Prime Motherboard
- Cabinet (the black box where everything goes in)
- 265 GB SSD Disk
- Power Supply Box
- Windows 10 Home Operating System
This is only the black box that you get and colloquially called CPU.
Now we move on to the other items that make the complete PC
- Head Phones or Speakers — 64 SGD
2. Dell Monitor with heigh adjustable — 228 SGD
3. Bluetooth — 12 SGD
4. Web cam (logitech with Mic) — 55 SGD
5. Assembling Charges — 30 SGD
6. Graphics Card (optional) — if you are on Graphic designing or basic Gaming
7. Transport — 20 SGD
All these add up to another 500 SGD.
A similar config for a laptop will cost you about SGD 1,800. That is a saving of SGD 400.
The key here is while thinking of buying a desktop, think about the additional accessories cost.
